Mission:
Episode 2 "Demons of the Past, Friends of the Future" - USS Halo
Location: Beta Quadrant Operational Theater Command Center - Star Base 113
Timeline: 2.5 Days After Started From The Bottom, Now We Here Post
After hauling ass for Star Base 113, Reacher was able to reach the Base within 2 and a half days, which was pretty good for the new shuttles they had. As soon as he arrived, he quickly summoned Hawks to the Beta Quadrant Operational Theater Command Center to begin what would be a hellish task for everything that needed to be done.
But Hawks had simply replied with a message on Jacks padd, it included; a list of 76 officers and the staff jobs that each should have in his opinion, a list of starbases that Hawks reccomended should be named 'Sector HQs' so that they would recieve additional resources from Command 'free of charge" and without any requisitioning hassles, a proposed set of 12 general orders for the Theatre, a proposal for a new series of exploratory missions coreward towards the densely packed regions of the middle of the galaxy designed to move out like spokes on a wheel using their best deep space explorers, and a cute note that simply said "Nope, I ain't coming, you said I could keep my ship, and I'm on a 3 week training tour of our primary Tactical unit. With this message, I am now 3 days ahead on my paperwork, so neener neener."
Jack also knew he had to now find a new Task Force Flag Officer, he would be able to be promoted to a new rank, but could still be promoted to a new position. He opened the channel to the Leonidas on a priority channel. Once it opened, Reacher began.
"Commodore, I have bet you heard by now, I'm no longer on the Halo for the Mission, I am at Star Base 113 getting stuff prepped for Beta Quadrant Operational Theater to get running as soon as possible. Now, with that said, that means Task Force 17 is without a Flag Officer, and that person is now you. Do you accept?"
The priority channel crackled to life, and O’Rourke leaned forward slightly in his chair as Reacher’s words carried through. He listened in silence, eyes narrowing, a faint crease etching deeper in his brow as the weight of the offer settled. When Reacher finished, there was a pause—long enough to suggest the Commodore was weighing more than just duty.
Finally, O’Rourke straightened, his voice low and steady, carrying the steel edge of someone who’d lived too many campaigns to take words lightly.
"Admiral, I won’t lie—this wasn’t the call I expected today. But the Task Force doesn’t get to wait for expectations. If you’re telling me the flag falls to me, then I’ll take it.
He leaned forward, tone sharpening.
"You know me well enough to understand this: I don’t wear stars for vanity. If I take this post, it’s to keep seventeen together and to see the mission through—whatever hell the Beta Quadrant throws at us. The Leonidas is ready. My people are ready. And if Command wants me in that chair, then I’ll carry the weight.
He exhaled slowly, gaze firm.
"So yes, Jack. I accept. Task Force 17 won’t break on my watch."
"Understood, Keep Me Updated. As of right now, our Romulan Liaison, Commander T’rella Jarve, is on her way to you now to do a training exercise with the Varient Horizon, so you aren't just sitting there," Reacher told Travis.
O’Rourke gave a short nod, the corner of his mouth tightening into something that wasn’t quite a smile.
"Good. My people can use the workout, and it’ll keep the Leonidas sharp while we wait for marching orders."
He tapped a few commands into his console, already signaling Rysell to prep the ship for drills.
"I’ll see to it Commander T’rella gets the full Starfleet welcome and a challenge worthy of the Horizon’s name. You’ll have my after-action report as soon as we’re done."
He leaned back, voice firm but respectful.
"Stay ahead of the storm out there, Jack. We’ll hold the line until you say otherwise."
"Understood." Jack then shut the comms off.
