The suite was quiet, the only sounds the soft hum of life support and the occasional beep of monitoring consoles. Princess Kaitaama reclined in a chair, reviewing reports of the past few days — diplomacy, public appearances, and the subtle choreography of political engagements. Despite everything proceeding smoothly, a tension had begun to prick at the back of her mind.

A soft chime signaled the arrival of Chief Medical Officer Lyra Denar, accompanied by two attendants. Lyra’s expression was serious, her professional calm tinged with concern.

“Princess,” Lyra began, her voice even, “we have completed a review of your neurological monitoring and physiological patterns over the past seventy-two hours. We have identified a potential concern regarding prolonged exposure to certain protective personnel.”

Kaitaama arched an eyebrow. “Concern? Explain.”

Lyra gestured to a holographic display of her neural and endocrine readings. “Kriosians have a rare biological response to compatible individuals — it can trigger involuntary attachment behaviors, similar to the phenomenon observed in past Federation cases involving external neurological imprinting. In short, continuous exposure to a single attentive individual may lead to an emotional and physiological bond forming without conscious intent.”

The Princess leaned back, expression carefully measured. “Involuntary attachment… so I could develop a bond simply through proximity?”

“Correct,” Lyra confirmed. “It is subtle at first, but if unchecked, the effect could influence judgment or emotional response. The safest precaution is controlled exposure: limiting close interactions to one single individual, should protective presence be required.”

Kaitaama’s gaze drifted to the viewport, observing the palace gardens below, shimmering in the late afternoon light. Her fingers tapped lightly on the console as her mind calculated the implications.

“I see,” she said softly. “One dedicated Marine, then. Competent, disciplined, and entirely focused on my security. No others in a protective capacity should interact with me closely.”

Lyra inclined her head. “Understood, Princess. We will monitor discreetly, ensure protocols are followed, and report only if anomalies develop. This precautionary measure minimizes exposure while maintaining your safety.”

The Princess exhaled, her posture straightening. “Good. I want the officer chosen based on skill and discretion, not rank. My personal security cannot be left to chance.”

Lyra nodded once more before leaving the suite. Alone, the Princess allowed herself a moment of reflection. Above Krios Prime, the shuttle hovered silently. The decision had been made — one Marine, a single thread of vigilance — a measured precaution against a subtle but real neurological risk.

The planet below remained unaware, bathed in sunlight, as the Princess contemplated the delicate balance of duty, safety, and unforeseen possibilities that lay ahead.
